Urban Village of Vaughan

City of Vaughan, Ontario

Project Overview

The City of Vaughan is one of the fastest growing areas within the Greater Toronto Region of southern Ontario. The City grew from a population of approximately 17.000 in 1985 to approximately 120,000 in the year 2000.

Members of the EDA Team were responsible for preparation of the Official Plan and Urban Structure Plan for the Urban Village 1, located west of Highway 400 and centred on Major Mackenzie Drive. This plan envisions a population of approximately 25,000 accommodated in high, medium and low density residential areas, complemented by a major district commercial centre, major district and neighbourhood parks and valley open space systems.

The plan development phases included a highly consultative process, involving members of the public, environmental interest groups, applicable planning approval agencies and all major landowners with holdings within the area.

This plan envisions a population of approximately 35,000 accommodated in high, medium and low density residential areas, complemented by a major district commercial centre, major district and neighbourhood parks and valley open space systems. A major transit study area is also located within the planning area.
