Project Overview

Working closely with Salter Farrow Pilon Architects Inc.,  the design team at EDA Collaborative Inc. was commissioned to integrate the new hospital expansion and site renovations into the main arrival area for Norfolk General Hospital.  Planning a major entrance for a hospital requires careful consideration of many significant factors.   EDA and SFP proposed a strong solution that focused on developing an identifiable entrance that reaches out to the community and supports barrier free access.   In addition to this enhancement project, function and efficiency were kept as high priorities as the emergency entrances and routes were carefully re-evaluated. The micro-climate was studied in order to maximize the potential for a comfortable and protected arrival.   Overall, the solution provides Norfolk Hospital with community identity, a visually attractive and user friendly entrance for patients, visitors and hospital staff alike.
