Town of Drayton Valley, Alberta
EDA Collaborative Inc. was retained by the Town of Drayton Valley to assist them with the redevelopment of an important retail street in the downtown core. The original street included a central median that separated traffic flow, parking on two sides and narrow sidewalks. Following discussions with local merchants and Town representatives several options were developed exploring different transportation and parking patterns and reconfigured sidewalks. The final plan saw the elimination of the median in favor of widened sidewalks, street tree planting, a mid block crossing and new, more effective lighting.
The firm provided the detail design and contract documentation for the layout of the street as well as the selection of the specific furnishing elements that make up the streetscape. Benches, waste receptacles, signage, kiosks, street tree planting, raised planters and lighting were all incorporated into the final streetscape design treatment.
