Cross Cancer Institute Healing Garden Officially Opens

The Cross Cancer Institute’s healing garden officially openned earlier this week in Edmonton.  The healing garden was the developed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Cross Cancer Institute’s Volunteer Association’s service to patients undergoing cancer treatment.  The challenge of creating a serene and therapeutic place within the allocated area was great.  The available space to construct the garden was located in a small sloped space between the ambulance bay and the parking lot.  The space also needed to accommodate a high volume of people with mobility constraints.  The design solution included a feature wall to screen parked cars, a custom designed serpentine bench to accomodate a high number of occupents, and a pergula to define and draw ones eye around the site.  EDA was honoured to assist the Volunteer Association in realizing their vision for this very important legacy project.
