EDA International, together with Scolozzi Stevens Architects, was one of the three international finalists selected to prepare a concept plan for the proposed Cultural Village project in Doha, Qatar. The project cerebrates the natural and human history of Qatar and its role in the Arabian Gulf region of the Middle East. The exciting “Cultural Necklace” concept organizes the key elements of the Cultural Village along a central indoor/outdoor circulation spine along a reconfigured water edge. The centerpiece of the necklace is the historic village, a place where the past comes alive in an authentically portrayed manner. The heritage village of “yesterday” is located on an island that is carefully separated and distinct from the facilities of “today”.
